David Hockney-- Self Portrait with Red Braces

This piece, called "self-portrait with red braces" created by David Hockney is a watercolor based painting created in 2003. The title gives away the theme that this is a self-portrait of David. The most prominent part of this piece is his red overalls, or as he likes to call them "braces". I enjoy how he painted a photo of himself literally painting because it parallels real life. David is, in fact, a painter who is currently painting a photo. It's comedic undertones and basic color choices give this piece personality and realism. If I were to describe his facial expression, I would say that he was deep into his painting at the time and someone loudly distracted him and this is when he looked up. The curiosity and concentration on his face are beautifully blended with different shades of peach.
