Jenny Saville

This particular painting by Jenny Saville is from 1991 and is titled "Self Portrait". Jenny
Saville typically paints females, displaying them in a natural state, including imperfections.
When I first look at this painting I see a tired, run down lady using the bathroom. Unlike many
of Saville's other paintings, the female has clothing on. Her facial expression appears fed up
or even confused, her uncombed hair adds to her disheveled look. The unkempt bathroom
portrays the overall mood of the painting.

Jenny Saville Painting Response

The name of this painting is The Mother by Jenny Saville. She did this painting in 2011 and it was influenced by her experience as a mother. I see a mother who is exhausted and almost sleeping while pregnant. She is also has two infants in her hands as well. She is also naked. I like this painting because it shows the struggle of motherhood. Being a mother is not an easy task especially if you have more than one at the same time. Most importantly, it shows how strong women are through dealing with three children and manage to be sane.

Jenny Saville

This painting by Jenny Saville caught my attention because this is one of her many nude paintings. Which allows me to see that she embraces nudity in thicker women. I am able to see that a lot of the women's face expressions give the impression that they are upset, unbothered or self conscience. However, Jenny finds a way to make them appealing in her paintings. Although, a lot of them seem to have a lot of sex appeal. I believe Jenny either admires women with this body figure and finds beauty them in a way. However, the face impressions can also speak of the body shaming thicker women go through. Since there is a way society portrays what a "beautiful" women should look like. I really like this painting and the way she used the skin coloring to match the background but still finds a way to make the body figure stand out.

Jenny Saville: Drawing - a response

Jenny Saville is a British painter who is know for her depiction of nude women.  The art piece above is called A Response.  It's a art piece of a women overlapping many other women sitting naked on a chair, almost as if time has past and a memory remains. This painting conjures up an impression of lapse time and seems to represents a commemoration of time.  Saville beautifully captures youth and full growth.  The multiple figures that overlap each other capture the continued progress of existence.  I feel that a women's time was beautifully captured in this piece.

Jenny Saville, Red Stare Head IV

This painting is called The Red Stare Head IV. It was painted in 2006-2011 with oil on canvas. The painting is of an individual staring into space. They also have an injured and swollen lip along with a bloodied face. How the person stares into the distance makes it look as if they’re in some sort of daze or state of stupor. Although the person is not showing any emotion, the painting screams emotion. The way Sayville painted the person’s eyes really stood out to me. They look very glassy like how someone’s eyes would be when they’re about to cry.

Jenny Saville: Byzantium

In 2018, Jenny Saville created Ancestors: Byzantium; a scrambled and energetic piece that captures archetypes from various religion and mythology. This is done to see the blurred distinction between the body and classical sculpture. She takes ideas, memories, and alternate dimensions to appear as something unrecognizable. It is almost as if you're looking at anatomical veins and arteries but up close the colors are graffitied destroying the illusion.

Jenny Saville: Closed Contact #10

This 1995 painting by artist Jenny Saville is one of the many pieces that she has created that display the imperfection of the human form in a beautiful way. Her mastery of texture and contrast truly separate her from any other artist that we have seen. Very few of Saville's works feature a human that is pictured in a standard position. Instead, she positions the subjects of her paintings at angles that allow her to prominently feature every curve and crease in the woman's figure. My initial opinion of this piece and her work in general was one of confusion as I knew that without knowing the meaning behind her art, I would never fully understand her purpose in painting such abstract pieces.  Upon further research, I now understand that Saville specializes in painting the female nude with a heightened focus on figure and detail. This art is not for everyone, but it is difficult to not appreciate a master of such a unique and precise craft.

Jenny Saville Painting

Jenny Saville

In this painting, Jenny Saville uses different paint colors to emphasize the impurities of ones skin or flesh. The nose and mouth are slightly enlarged and the coloring on the lips make them look cracked. Saville paints women in a way that's different than what the "ideal" women looks like. The women in the image appears to have somewhat wet or greasy hair and swollen, red eyes. It is not something that we would normally see as beautiful, but in a way it is because it is portraying real women.

Jenny Saville - Branded (1992)

The artwork above is called Branded, it was created in 1992. This painting is a nude self-portrait viewed from below. The words delicate, supportive, irrational, decorative, and petite are written on the body backward. Saville has stated in the past that "I'm not painting disgusting, big women. I'm painting women who've been made to think they're big and disgusting." She is known to undermine the idea of a typical woman's body based on beauty and feminine qualities. However, my first expression about this painting was it's different since I haven't seen anything similar to this in the past. In my opinion, it seemed a little unusual for a famous piece of work. But after reading the meaning behind it, I believe it's pretty amazing what Jenny Saville created here.

Jenny Saville- Reproduction Drawing IV

This is Reproduction Drawing IV is a paper and pencil artwork made by Jenny Saville. It was created in 2009-10 and is held in the Gagosian Art Exhibit. This piece is a part of a series of pieces called the reproductive drawings. In creating this, she mimics Leonardo's Madonna and Child with St. Anne and Virgin and child with St. Ann and St.John the Baptist. Jenny Saville takes the human form and makes it look as if it is moving within these drawings, the child being depicted looks tangled within its mothers arms as a small child would be naturally.

Jenny Saville

This painting is called Reverse. It was painted in 2002-2003. This painting is a self portrait of the artist Jenny Saville. The painting is of Jenny laid down on the floor, which shows her reflection. Her eyes are beaming straight into the viewer's eyes. The eyes look lifeless, as if she is dead. It is red around her mouth, up to her nose. As if it is blood. To me, this painting looks like a picture of Jenny dead on the floor with blood on her face. It's very disturbing to look at but hard to not stare and look into her eyes. But I do like how realistic she painted herself. It's different from her other paintings where it is odd and the person is disfigured. She is proportionate in this painting, so it gives it a more realistic feeling which makes it more disturbing.

Jenny Savillie

I find this particular painting intriguing because of the eyes drew in a way that isn't  neat, including the rest of the painting. The painting is splatered mixed with some dark yet some light colors. Some areas are also shadowed and more highlighted. The painter seems to want viewers to understand a feeling from the person who is painted. I feel that the eyes are the most important aspect of this.

Jenny Saville-- Torso II

This piece, by Jenny Saville, is titled torso II which we as the viewer can infer is the remains of a once-living being. It is an oil-based painting that was released in 2004 but was not placed on the market for sale. Many of Saville's workings revolve around the theme of flesh and it's unpleasant yet transfixing presence. This piece definitely gives me vibes from the t.v show Dexter, which is about a serial killer and his obsession with blood. The gore is not the part that makes me feel uncomfortable about her work, rather it's her unusual choice of body positioning and oddly warped parts. I can say that I enjoy her deep color choices but that's about it.

This is the record painting for sale at auction of a living female artist.
