Marc Chagall

I really like the color scheme in this painting and how it is very dark but has some bright colors. It reminds me of Peter Pan because of the guy with the green. I really enjoy this painting it makes me feel like the couple was going through a rough time, and the women depends on the guy. I love how the painting seems like it has shapes in it such as squares and ovals.

Marc Chagall- Printemps

Marc Chagall created this piece titled Printemps in 1938 using lithography. I chose this picture because of the odd nature of it. Somehow the goat, violin, and girl all flow together in a nice way. I also like the detailing on the goats pants.

Marc Chagall : Amoureux dans le ciel Village

Marc Chagall is known for his brilliant colors and folk style art pieces.  This mono print has a couple sitting on a roof of a barn with a full moon and an angel flying in the night sky.  It's a beautiful picture of a man holding his love.  I found this piece full of expression.

This mono-print done by Marc Chagall is called Le Cirque (The Circus). I picked this piece of artwork because I really liked all the colors in it. What especially stood out to me was all of the primary colors. The drawings are loose yet you can still tell what is going on. Again I really enjoy this, it looks very fun!

Mark Chagall: "The Enamored Print"

This Piece is absolutely gorgeous. His use of colors that are both vibrant and complement one another really makes this print special. The detail in this print is what separates it from other prints of its kind in my opinion. The texture of the leaves and the beautiful birds and animals all add to this piece very nicely. Overall, a wonderful, attention-grabbing work of art.

Soleil dans le ciel de Saint-Paul

This painting stood out to me because of the color contrast. I love the color blue and the yellow really popped out. It's a different type of painting that makes you think. It almost looks like its a sunny day and there is a man on a tree playing an instrument and the figures in the sky are dancing / floating to the music.

Marc Chagall

Marc Chagall paints in a very raw real way. His paintings have a particular flow to them. I chose this painting, siren and fish because it was different. A lot of his other paintings include the cuddling or glued together people in a circular motion. The "mermaid" in this painting is just floating around the sky. I am guessing its the sky because of the moon and building looking images in the distance. The face of the mermaid was also odd, the orange hair draws you straight to it.

Marc Chagall

I enjoyed this particular monoprint because it shows a lot with one single color. I also enjoy it even if it isn't as professionally drawn and appreciate its meaning. The strokes are also going towards one way.

marc chargall

This is a painting called blue Lovers by Marc Chargall. It was made in 1914. i love the color of this image and it shows two people showing love to each other by touching each other. Also, he does all these art about his wife and how much he loves her and she always has to approve his art before he bring it out to public and i like that about him personally. It is nice to see how much of an impact his wife has on his paintings.

Marc Chagall-Autumn in the Village

Marc Chagall was known for his early modernist. He would create art through all the different forms of artist methods, such as painting, book illustration, strained glass, stage sets, ceramics, tapestries and fine art prints. Chagall created this painting name Autumn in the Village. I chose this specific artwork because it's unique. The design and details included are very interesting to look at. The design of the tree makes this painting stand out more. I found the placement of certain objects to be uncommon but I believe this is what makes the painting. To add on, I like the colors utilized, overall it makes the painting look old fashion.

The Birthday- Marc Chagall

This is "The Birthday" by Marc Chagall. It was made in 1915 on a  32x40 cardboard with oil. In the picture it looks like there is a women who is preparing some sort of meal and is surprised with flowers and a unique looking kiss. This painting was inspired by Chagall's Wife, Bella. This was painted only a few weeks before he and is wife got married. I really like the cubist style brought to show surprise, happiness and love within the couple.

Bataille de Fleurs (Carnaval of Flowers) from Nice and the Côte d’Azur, 1967

This piece is called Bataille de Fleurs (Carnaval of Flowers) from Nice and Côte d’Azur by Marc Chagall. I chose this piece because just from my perspective, it's very visually pleasing. I love the main tone of blue that he uses; it's pastel and light blue and very soft. It somewhat reminds of me Christmas with the carriages in the sky carrying the flowers. Also when translated, I believe the title translates to "battle of flowers" which I think is nice and contradictory to what a battle is. However, this could be an actual depiction of the Carnaval of Flowers in Nice, which is one the biggest carnivals in the world. It's a very pretty color lithograph.

Spring by David Hockney

David Hockney enjoyed painting of English woodlands and leafy alleys.  This painting is of the woods and a pathway, lots of greenery and trees.  I like this picture because its soothing and just beautiful.

Breakfast at Malibu: David Hockney

In 1989 David Hockney created his oil piece, Breakfast at Malibu. This painting captures the vitality of Hockney's home or as he put it "my little house in Malibu is the Pacific Coast Highway; at the other side is the beach. I step out of my kitchen door and there, right here, is the sea."The sense of the ocean's constant movement is captured in thrashing whorls of bold blues. greens, and aquamarines. In the back, the pointed shapes often suggest mountains as it is a poetic interpretation of land-sea.

David Hockney's artwork is truly inspiring. He paints realistic images but adds his own personal touch: color. His use of vibrant colors that all complement one another is genius and makes each of his works a true masterpiece.

David Hockey: Pearlblossom Highway

This is called Pearlblossom Highway (1986) by David Hockey. This is a little but different from Hockeys style but that is what I liked about it. The texture of this picture made it stand out to me. This picture is composed of hundreds of individual pictures. Hockney spent a week capturing every little detail to complete this piece; from the mountains in the distance to the litter on the side of the road.

This art is by  David Hockney: A Bigger Picture is the first major exhibition held in Spain to celebrate the crucial role landscape plays in the career of this artist, considered the most important living British painter. It was a serious of art and I like the colors and details of each plant and the composition of it. Looks like it took time to make it.

David Hockney

David Hockey uses very vibrant colors making his paintings very realistic. This particular painting is called "The Portrait of the artist" from 1972. The colors in the pool and the mountain and hill shadings in the background make it very real. In this painting Hockney was going through a phase of depression because of complications in his love life. When first looking at the image I thought that maybe he was watching a loved one swim, but after learning of his mental health at the time. I am starting to think that there is a darker turn, maybe that is his significant other drowning in the pool while he watches.

David Hockney

David Hockney painted this piece called the East Yorkshire Landscape. This painting is actually a part of the East Yorkshire Landscape series. Hockney made this series in 2007 to celebrate his 70th birthday. Hockney first came known to this area when he was a teenager stoking corn during his summer breaks. This series consists of five 12ft paintings. All five paintings were completed within a year. I really do like that this picture is almost panoramic. I feel like I am actually in the woods and looking around. It is cartoonish but also realistic. I really do like this painting a lot.

David Hockney

I liked this picture because it reminded me of a place that I've been to in New Paltz, NY. I think that is why I was very drawn to it.. because it was familiar. I really liked how the road stood out compared to the greenery around it. They way the pictures are split into two is also cool because it separates the two sides of the road.
This painting drew me because of the beauty of the colors and it seems as if there are different season within one road and in between the mountains,
I also enjoyed the landscape behind it and the brush strokes he used on the mountain.

David Hockney: A Bigger Splash

David Hockney
A Bigger Splash
1967
The following piece from David Hockney is a pop art painting called A Bigger Splash. It's measurements are 242.5 cm by 243.9 cm, acrylic on canvas. What I liked about this specific piece of work is that the painting is realistic. The artist added exact details of how the water of a pool would look like if someone jumped in. As well as, it's interesting how Hockney painted this without making the figure who jumped in the pool visible. Overall in my opinion, he did a good job in the combination of colors, which gives the painting a modern, tropical field. He painted this when he was California, therefore the painting represents a typical California setting.

David Hockney- Two Deck Chairs

Two Deck Chairs, Calvi is by David Hockney. It was made in 1972 with acrylic on a 60x48 canvas. I chose this one because I really enjoy how the texture of the shutters make them look so real. Also the use of primary colors making it capture your eye onto the two deck chairs against the wall. This reminds me of olds buildings near the beach.

Pictured Gathering With Mirror by David Hockney

This is David Hockey's Pictured Gathering with Mirror finished in 2018. This is a photographic drawing printed on paper. I really like this piece because it looks like they're at some art exhibition and the artwork is themselves. You can see a lot of different personalities and there's so much going on in this drawing. Some people are just looking at themselves in the mirror, others are talking to each other, there's a dog slumped in the middle, and there's writing on the side of the wall, which I can't make out what it is except for the 30 on the top. It's just a very nice drawing.

David Hockney

This 6′ 9″ x 24′ 5″ oil painting created in 1998 is called A Bigger Grand Canyon. This painting is a culminating statement about depiction and experience of space. He used different views taken over a period of time. He refers to Cubism, which is when a subject is depicted from multiple viewpoints. He painted this to show that there are many viewpoints around the Grand Canyon. I enjoy this painting because I love the colors and how realistic is looks.

David Hockney-- Self Portrait with Red Braces

This piece, called "self-portrait with red braces" created by David Hockney is a watercolor based painting created in 2003. The title gives away the theme that this is a self-portrait of David. The most prominent part of this piece is his red overalls, or as he likes to call them "braces". I enjoy how he painted a photo of himself literally painting because it parallels real life. David is, in fact, a painter who is currently painting a photo. It's comedic undertones and basic color choices give this piece personality and realism. If I were to describe his facial expression, I would say that he was deep into his painting at the time and someone loudly distracted him and this is when he looked up. The curiosity and concentration on his face are beautifully blended with different shades of peach.

MSMC Art Gallery

I really enjoy this piece of art although it is very simple, when you look closely it shows that the artist wrote I am sorry a thousand times or so. And it explains how saying I am sorry a bunch of times just isn't enough sometimes. Therefore, I love the meaning behind it. The sensation of writing it on top over and over again shows pain and guilt. It makes me feel like like someone needing forgiveness but did not obtain it. I love this drawing and the emotion it gives off.

This is my least favorite painting not only because I wasn't sure how it fit in with the theme but it was very basic. There wasn't anything to special about it. However, I do like how the image moves when you move as well.

Art Gallery

T
This was my favorite piece at in the gallery. It is called  "A Thousand Times I'm Sorry." I liked the meaning of the painting. In the artist description, they mentioned that words/phrases can overused and loose their meaning and "sharp edges." They wrote "I'm sorry" 1,000 times on watercolor paper. At first glance, I couldn't tell what the painting was but after looking at it, i could slowly start to see the words "I'm sorry." i thought this was a very interesting visual way to represent words loosing their meaning.

This was my least favorite piece in the gallery. It is called "Fish." The artist used the sounds of each letter in different words to spell the word "Fish." they created this piece to illustrate the difficulties if the English language.  In the artist description they say the word uses the "gh" sound from enough, the "o" sound from women, and the "ti" sound from emotion. This piece didn't have much of an effect of me as much as other pieces did.

Art Gallery

My favorite was "I'm Sorry" .  The fact that he took the time to write it 1000 times is incredible.  I love the simplicity of it.  My least favorite was "Lets Hook Up Later".  It was 3D and intriguing how there are two pictures in one, but it's in my opinion boring.  I didn't find it appealing, although the method of making it was nice.

MSMC ART GALLERY

"Lets Hook up later" is my favorite from the art gallery. It is my favorite because I feel like hookup culture especially with the start of tinder. I personally connect with this because I met my boyfriend on tinder and even though people see the app as a shallow place to go, I think it is amazing how you can connect with your possible love of your life that you would of never met without tinder. The two people at work and having sex could be the future elderly couple in love.

"...The House and the Senate were dreadlocked" is a piece of artwork that I didn't enjoy from the Art show. I feel like artwork and hatred of Trump is overdone in media. It is boring and has nothing interesting about it. It just involves newspapers and a news quote which is an overdone artwork. Its dull and it would only peak interest of people who have made their lives a political drain.

MSMC Art Gallery

This was my favorite piece from the art show because it was the perfect way to display how many times we are either told "im sorry" or someone says it to us. Something so easy to say but holds so much meaning behind it. The shadow from the smudged ink also adds a cool effect, almost like the sorrys from the past in the distance.
I absolutely hate when people reply with "sure" so this was an easy one for me to dislike. Sure is such an undefined answer because you don't get the person's real answer. Is it yes or is it no? I could also dislike it because of how indecisive I am.

MSMC Art Gallery

MSMC Art Gallery

My favorite work from the art gallery was the "Lets Hook Up" piece. This is such a unique work of art as it projects two different images depending on what angle you look at it from. This piece was inspired by mobile dating apps like "Tinder" and "Grindr" and it is one of the most creative concepts that I have ever seen.

For me, the "Im Sorry" piece was my least favorite. While I did find the piece extremely pleasing to look at, it didn't do much for me in terms of the picture as a whole. The "Im Sorry" written over and over again was interesting to look at, but the amount of negative space took a lot of potential away from the piece.

Art Gallery

I really liked the "I'm Sorry" art piece. I felt that it was so simple to look at yet such a powerful message. The time taken for the art piece must have been a very long time.

I disliked the "Communication Monitor" because it was very straight to the point. I also didn't like the placement of the picture, it didn't really follow the rule of thirds.

Art Gallery

The first picture was the one that I did not like. I don't like red and green together.. those colors don't appeal to me and remind me of Christmas. I get that they're supposed to be opposing. Like the color red is telling you "No" or "Stop" and the color green is representing "Yes" or "Go". The second picture appealed to be because of its 3D effects. It was different and it stood out. I like how the colors are neutral and the black border makes it pop.

Art Exhibit

The first piece called "I'm sorry, a thousand times I'm sorry" is a beautiful way of saying how when people blankly say a phrase or word over and over agian it loses its meaning. The blurred and barely legible words "I'm sorry" is a phrase that many people overuse and tend to not hold much value. By writing it over and over again in the same spot on a blank piece of paper can be symbolic of how we use language to justify certain emotions and expect clarity.

The second piece called "Fish" describes the struggle of interpreting the English language. Though this piece has a lovely meaning, I don't think it was executed very well. It looks like a sand desert or conglomeration of clouds that are trying to spell out an unknown word.

Cindy Sherman-- untitled 1976-2000

Cindy Sherman is an American photographer who is known for her bizarre self-portraits that deals with gender and self-identity. She created a volume of art called untitled (1976-2000) which is made up of dozens of black and white photos featuring Cindy herself. All of the photos are taken at a further distance with a model wearing various costumes and placed in different positions. Each character holds a different meaning regarding self-identity. Though it is the same individual, all the photos look like different people. This photo looks like an older woman who is riding the bus after grcery shopping. The placement of the chair and model, though roughly in the center, is pleasing to the eye due to its simplicity along with the black and white appearance.

most favorite and least favorite

This painting is called "No means No". I love the colors and the patterns of it. I like how the message it between the art but at the same time proves the point. This is a very strong and powerful message that people dont take it as important as it is. This is my most favorite.
This is my least favorite because it is so obvious. It didn't make me think or wonder what it is. It was so straight to the point.
