This particular painting by Jenny Saville is from 1991 and is titled "Self Portrait". Jenny
Saville typically paints females, displaying them in a natural state, including imperfections.
When I first look at this painting I see a tired, run down lady using the bathroom. Unlike many
of Saville's other paintings, the female has clothing on. Her facial expression appears fed up
or even confused, her uncombed hair adds to her disheveled look. The unkempt bathroom
portrays the overall mood of the painting.
