Eduardo Paolozzi Jesus Colour by Numbers
Jesus Colour by Numbers was published in 1970. There are several versions of this photolithograph and screenprint, all with the same vibrant colors and pop art that is common in Paolozzi's artworks. I found these two versions very interesting. The different choices of color makes for a different mood and feel, in my opinion. The first version of Jesus is more abstract. Not only are the colors darker than the other version, it gives off a darker mood. Even though, Jesus is known to be all good, Paolozzi's choice of yellow eyes seems to suggest otherwise. I often see devils depicted with their eyes also yellow, so it reminded me of that. The second picture, on the other hand, is more natural and realistic, despite its abstract composition. It is what you would expect a portrait of Jesus to be like. I like how simple but purposeful the shadows and highlights are made on this picture. Also, as with any of his artwork, the different colors really make the picture stand out
